Some Things You Need to Understand About the Divorce Rate

We are all well aware that the divorce rate is staggering. Divorce has affected nearly every family in America, in one way or another. We often remind ourselves that 50% of marriages end in divorce. This divorce rate statistic gives our young people, who are getting married, the idea that they only have a 50/50 shot at success. I think we’re giving them the wrong impression!

Why You Need to Build a Rock Pile with Your Son

Look, I’m far from a parenting expert. In fact, I’m not an expert of any kind. I’m just a dad. But, I do believe every dad needs to build a rock pile with his son.

Leading Your Family: 7 Leadership Skills Every Parent Needs

Nothing humbles a person quite like parenting. Having two little boys has made me realize, I’m not the leader I need to be. I know, the older my children get, the more important it is that I learn to lead them God’s way. Here is a list of 7 leadership skills every parent needs to develop:

How to be a “Super Dad”

I don’t consider myself a “Super Dad,” but I am trying to become one. Don’t worry, I’m not going to start wearing a cape, or tight red shorts on the outside of my pants; but I want to be a super hero to my sons. Here are some of the things I think dads need to do, in order to be Super Dads:

3 Things I’m Going to Stop Saying

Here’s a thought-provoking passage, “I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak” (Matthew 12:36). Jesus didn’t say that we will give an account for every “profane” word or every “vulgar” word we speak, certainly that’s true, but He said we will give an account for every “careless” word we speak. I don’t know about you, but I can be pretty careless with my words sometimes. I am especially careless when I’m talking to my son.

How I Messed Up With My Wife and Kids

I know I could probably make a list of 100 ways I’ve messed up as a husband and a dad. I don’t think my wife has a picture of me taped to a dartboard or anything, but I am far from a perfect husband or father. I want to be though. I don’t just want to be good; I want to be a perfect husband and a perfect father. That’s why it pains me to tell you how I constantly mess up with my wife and kids.

10 Technology Rules for Christian Parents

Technology makes things more convenient, not to mention a whole lot more fun! It brings a world of information right to your fingertips. Computers, tablets, and smartphones make surfing the web (do we even use that term anymore?) easier than ever! But with this technology, comes an enormous responsibility; especially for those of us with children.

Here are my top 10 technology rules for Christian parents:

1. Set Time Limits for Everything – This rule is as applicable to adults as it is to children. We need to make sure we set time limits for the television, the computer, and even mobile devices (phones, mp3 players, and tablets). It is very hard to be “plugged in” with our families when we’re “plugged in” on some device. For instance, time spent in a vehicle is precious family time; don’t waste it by always having a television on! I was told once, by a speech teacher, one of the worst things parents do for their children’s ability to speak well is have a television in the car. Make sure you limit the amount of time family members spend in front of a screen, so that you can maximize your family time.

Family Guy on Fox: Worst TV Show of the Week

The Parents Television Council named Family Guy (Fox), “The Worst TV Show of the Week.” You can read here (if you can stomach it) the awful, blasphemous, filth that the latest episode of Family Guy contained.

Personally, I can’t even stomach the commercials for this awful television show. But what really frustrates me is this:
